OPEN SEWING SESSIONS
Every Wednesday in September!
Need a bright & open space to work on your sewing projects? Bring your fabric & patterns and use our machines, while chatting with friends over a cup of tea and enjoy an afternoon of crafting. Limited instruction is available, but we will help troubleshoot as you work. Pre-registration is not required! Just drop in with your supplies and inspiration. An ironing station will also be available.

Beginning Embroidery: Sampler Moderne
Instructor: Michele DeWilliam
A fresh approach to an embroidery standard, this class is an introduction to the world of contemporary stitching. Students will make a sampler moderne on a floursack towel, while learning the basics of embroidery tools, types of stitches, and ways to design on fabric.

Block-Printed Pillow Cover
Instructor: Emily Grosse, co-owner of Assemble
Make a 12 x 12 inch linen pillow cover, patterned with a linoleum block-print of your own design! Learn about printmaking history, design methods and various dyes & inks while creating an original block-printed piece.

Time: 1pm – 3pm
Make Your Own Stamp
Instructor: Emily Grosse, co-owner of Assemble
Design and carve a linoleum stamp of your very own! You will learn about transfer techniques, inks, and design elements such as overprinting and blocking. Practice using your image on paper & fabric, and see how many creative ways you can use your new stamp!

T-Shirt Quilt
Instructor: Britta Folden
Bring in your old sports, school & event t-shirts and learn to make a simple flannel-backed quilt. This two-part class will teach you basic cutting, piecing, and design elements of quilt making, and give those nostalgic tees a new life. Students will need to provide their own t-shirts, sweatshirts or jerseys (16 – 30), 3-4 yards of your choice of flannel, and batting of your choice. All other materials & treats are provided!

Learn the Sewing Machine
Instructor: Kate Burt, Operation Stitch
Have you wanted to learn the basics of sewing? Here’s a good place to start! The instructor will guide you through the mechanics of the machine, fabric types, plus tools and techniques to get your sewing projects underway. You will complete a simple snap-buttoned pouch to show off your new skills. Do you have a sewing machine at home you need some help figuring out? Bring it along!

Knitting Project: Castaway Scarf
Instructor: Amy Bengtson, Amy Bengtson Jewelry
Learn to knit in this two part class by completing a simple buttoned scarflette. Students will learn basic knit and purl, casting on and off, and making button holes. A beginning, hands-on tutorial session will be followed up with a project work session.

Family Craft: Make An Accordion Book
Instructor: Emily Grosse, co-owner of Assemble
Make a personalized book to journal or sketch in! We will fold the pages and decorate the covers with colorful paper and ribbon. (Children should be accompanied by an adult)

Bookbinding Project: Coptic Stitch Journal
Instructor: Emily Grosse, co-owner of Assemble
Learn basic bookbinding techniques through the intricate art of Coptic stitch in this sewn-spine tutorial. Students will create a keepsake blank journal using archival materials and decorative papers from around the world.
