More sewing dates coming soon! Here’s the lowdown: We schedule 3 to 6 Learn The Sewing Machine I workshops each month, and 3 to 6 Learn the Sewing Machine: Beyond the Basics workshops each month. Learn the Sewing Machine I
$60 for a 2 hour class. All workshop materials provided.
Have you wanted to learn the basics of sewing? Here’s a good place to start! The instructor will guide you through the mechanics of the machine, fabric types plus tools and techniques to get your sewing projects underway. You will complete a simple coffee cup cozy to show off your new skills. All materials are included, but you are welcome to bring your favorite fabrics for your project.

Learn the Sewing Machine II: Beyond the Basics
$60 for a 2 hour class. All workshop materials provided.
You may be able to sew straight lines and zig-zags, but have you been wondering about the mysterious button-holer? What exactly is a zipper foot? In this class we will focus on the second level of basic sewing machines, including blind hemming stitches, inserting a zipper, adding buttons, and making ruffles & ruches. Students will finish a simple lined and zippered pouch. Basic knowledge of machine is required.

Happy New Year! We are thrilled to be starting a new year with all of our Greenwood friends. AND we are very excited about our upcoming schedule. On Friday, the 13th (eek!) of January, from 6-9pm, Assemble will be hosting the opening for local artist Jill Labieniec and her brand new show, Castles in the Air.

“Childhood memories of attic treasures nestled away in dusty corners and piled high in cardboard boxes are the inspirations for this show. Each piece tells a story, some through lazy afternoon daydreams while others rely on the viewer to create a narrative of their own out of a simple object. This collection is made up of Gocco prints, a process similar to screen printing that uses a Japanese child’s toy to make detailed and sophisticated prints.” -J. Labieniec

December 9: Milk + Bookies + Santoro’s Discount!

We’re so excited for our 2nd birthday party here at Assemble that we just had to send you a quick reminder! Make sure to pencil in our Milk + Bookies birthday party we are having this coming Friday, December 9th from 5pm – 9pm. Come have some milk and cookies with us, and bring a childrens’ book to donate to the Denise Louie Education Center.

We spoke with a Denise Louie representative and she mentioned that they are mostly looking for multicultural books for ages 0-5 in ALL languages including Chinese, Spanish, etc. (Also, we would like to shy away from any Disney or corporate character books). PLUS, Santoro’s Books across the street has offered a 20% discount for any childrens’ books to be donated that night. Come by and give the gift of reading to a child and celebrate with us. Be sure to watch the adorable video, here. We’re very excited to see you all!

Tonight, Friday the 11th! From 6-9pm, grab a drink on us and come see Urban & Amy’s brand new show, Next Time; The Dark Ages. Until Then., in our NEWLY REDESIGNED SPACE! We are very excited about our little expansion and hope you will come in to see all the new goodies we have in store for you. This month, Urban & Amy continue to develop work based on images of everyday and iconic objects as well as familiar views of the city they inhabit. Though their work is never figurative it often suggests our presence via the objects and environments we utilize. We hope to see you tonight!
